His Holiness the Dalai Lama has arrived in the UK at the start of a ten day visit. During his time in Britain, the Dalai Lama will be giving public talks and Buddhist teachings in the city of Nottingham.

The Karmapa’s first visit to the West

His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, yesterday started his first visit to the West when he arrived in New York. This 18 day visit can, on going news of which can be followed on this blog, takes in the cities of New York, Boulder and Seattle.
The Global Oneness Project has posted this beautiful video clip where His Holiness reflects on the meaning of “oneness” in today’s world.

“Many have been anticipating the visit of His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa to America for nearly two decades. During the 1970s and 80s, the tours of His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa were historic occasions for the Western Buddhist community. We anticipate that the first visit of His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa will also also prove to be a momentous event.”

George Lee, Future Shock’s presenter, spoke at the 6th Annual International ASPO (Association for the Study of Peak Oil) conference held during September 2007 in Cork, Ireland. George is RTÉ’s Chief Economics Correspondent.
Below is a video of George’s talk where he speaks of the sometimes hostile reaction that he received following the airing of Future Shock. He also talks of the need for the Peak Oil “folk” to speak in a language that conveys the message of the implications of peak oil beyond that of the converted.
