A few months after the house was finished, we started work on a meditation hut at the far end of the land that I lived on. Unfortunately I do not have many photographs of it, so a description here will have to suffice. The hut had beautiful views over to the far mountains (see the side bar on the main photograph page for this house). The main frame was green oak. Wood from the old house was used for some of the walls and ceiling, until those working on the hut (a wonderful crew, one I remember coming up to the Buddhist Centre once to listen to some teachings being offered one morning) decided that the wood that was left was the bottom of the barrel and was lacking life. So from there new wood was brought in. The roof was made of shingles. Extension leads were run from the house to power the tools used in construction, but interestingly they struggled to run. We thought that probably too much power was lost in the long run from the house. There was a switch inside the main house that allowed me to move from solar/wind generated electricity to mains electricity should the need ever arise - I can't actually remember that need arising, apart from in this instance when turning over mains electricity gave the tools the added injection that they needed in order to run.
This was a lovely space to be in. If I was at home but not in the house or wandering around the garden, I was probably sitting in here...though funnily no one ever found me there.
