An Evening with Benjamin Clementine
Two weeks ago I had no idea who Benjamin Clementine was, though I had unknowingly listened to a track of his used by Apple in their opening credits to The Morning Show.
Then a couple who we had met told us that they had tickets to see Clementine at the Cool Jazz Festival in Cascais. Just to do something different we decided to go.
We listened to some of his music in preparation for the evening, but were still unsure how we would feel about the concert especially with its 10:30pm start.
Well I write this with Clementine’s first album At Least For Now playing in the background. What a wonderful, extraordinary evening. A great performer and I’m enjoying familiarizing myself with his work.
Self taught on the piano with an incredible voice range, having spent a few years homeless and busking in Paris, and playing bars there before being discovered.
A wonderful evening topped off by discovering that two families who we know from Alcácer do Sal were also at the concert.
I leave you with a video of one of my favourite songs, I Won’t Complain.
