My Favourite Christmas Songs

I was driving in the car yesterday listening to some Holiday music, music that I actually didn’t like (they were just on whichever Playlist was playing at that time) and it made me wonder what Christmas songs I do like (I am going to say Christmas here as opposed to Holiday, as Christmas was the word that was used to describe this time of year when I was growing up in Britain. I’ve adopted Holiday since moving to the US). Then I thought, “I should write a blog post listing those songs,” and so I am.

I am dividing the songs into Carols and Popular as both are important to me at this time of year. I have not imposed a number limit on the tunes, just whatever occurs to me as I write this. I might indeed return to this post and add more as they come to me.

They are listed in no particular order.

Carols

  • Silent Night
  • Once In Royal David’s City
  • Hark The Herald Angels Sing
  • Oh Come, All Ye Faithful
  • Away In A Manger
  • Good Rest You Merry, Gentlemen
  • Sussex Carol

Popular

  • I Believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake
  • Driving Home for Christmas - Chris Rea
  • Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade
  • Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie
  • Walking in the Air - Aled Jones
  • A Spaceman Came Traveling - Chris De Burgh
  • Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
  • Happy Xmas (War is Over) - John Lennon
  • Peace on Earth / Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby & David Bowie

What are your favourite Christmas songs? Or can you simply not stand any of them?!
