Rainbows
With increasing regularity, I have been posting images of rainbows that I have seen. Most of these are taken in Maui, where I live, though there are a handful from elsewhere. I decided to collect all of these photographs together and show them in a single page. As of this page going live, Monday 14th May 2025, there were 89 photos of rainbows on the site.
The images start with the first rainbow posted to this website. That was on 23rd December 2018. They then work forward through the days, months and years to the most recent (as of this page going live was two days ago, 12th April 2025).

Last week’s busyness and frustration saw me not posting any rainbow photos. That does not mean that there were none, as there most certainly were. I captured a number of them and am now posting them here in order to catch up.

I spent today making a few cosmetic changes to my website. For the most part longer posts to my blog are headed with a title. This isn’t always true. There are a couple of longer posts which are without a title, but it is true enough for that to be a guiding light for how to find a longer post here. Thinking that some visitors might prefer to go straight to longer posts, or at least have a doorway that leads directly to them, I have added a new menu item to the navigation bar, Longer Reads.
The rainbows are starting to appear with increased abundance now. One that I missed last night while we were out eating presented itself in dark vivid colours at dusk. The wetter weather of the last couple of days is definitely helping.
This double rainbow appeared this morning. 🌈

What Does AI Make Of Me?

With a dose of curiosity I recently asked Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT the following question, “Can you please look at the website www.crossingthethreshold.net and tell me what sort of person you think David Johnson is?" When I make use of AI, ChatGPT has been the platform that I go to. Why? Probably because as far as I am aware it was the first to appear for mainstream use, I started tinkering with it and over time have got used to its idiosyncrasies.

The unexpected rain last night - at least I saw no forecast for it - brought faint rainbows in the smattering of clouds that were in the sky this morning. 🌈
Well I might not have got my wet, stay inside Sunday, but the morning showers did produce a faint rainbow. 🌈

This morning’s double rainbow 🌈
Yesterday evening we had a rain shower. The skies darkened quickly, the rain fell and with that, as the sun set on the other side of the island, a rainbow formed. 🌈
The rainbow started off as just a part rainbow sitting in a cloud,
and then it formed a complete ark across the sky.
With the return of the rains, it looks as though the rainbows are returning. I saw a couple of partial rainbows nestled in clouds while out driving yesterday. Then this rainbow greeted me this morning. 🌈
I think, I hope that the rains are slowly returning to Maui. More clouds. More short showers. We have had a couple of sprinkling showers already today. Next I would like to order a heavy downpour and then an overcast day peppered with plenty of rain.
At the end of last week one brief evening shower produced a very faint rainbow. You might have to look hard to see it, but it is there. I’ll claim it to add to the collection of rainbows on this blog. 🌈

No sooner have I spoken than I spied a very faint rainbow this morning. Very faint indeed, but I’m pretty sure that is what is hanging there in the sky. Is this a stretch? I don’t think so. I’ll take it.
I’m beginning to wonder what has happened to the rainbows since I returned to Maui? I haven’t seen one, and this morning it is raining. The ingredients are there. Perhaps they are taking a summer vacation?
